SUMMER COOKING CAMP – Science In The Kitchen

Join us for a week of mad-delicious food experiments all while learning to cook your favourite foods.  In this hands-on cooking camp, we will cover kitchen FUN-damentals such as knife skills, how to read and follow a recipe, measuring and mixing and the importance of kitchen safety.  A few field trips to a local farm, restaurant and farmers market are included.  Best of all, we’ll get into some fun, scientific details of cooking, including the importance of using specific ingredients and cooking times.  Along the way we will make some great food to impress family and friends!

Please Note:  Classes are only available as a 5-day series, no single day enrollments.  Campers must be aged 10 and over to attend.

Day 1 – Powerful Proteins  Proteins play an important roll in helping us grow.  Learn how to incorporate a variety of proteins into your diet throughout the day.  MENU – Breakfast Smoothie – Mini Potato & Herb Frittata – Quinoa Veggie Burgers – Angel Food Cake with Strawberry Sauce

Day 2 – The Plants We Eat  With an array of locally grown produce, we can make such an amazing array of delicious dishes, from snacks to supper.  MENU – Guacamole with Sweet Potato Chips, Grilled Chicken with Fresh Veggie Salsa, Mexican Grilled Corn, Summer Fruit Crisp

Day 3 – Magical Enzymes & Dairy  Watch and eat what happens when enzymes are combined to make some truly incredible foods.  MENU – Homemade Yogurt, Yogurt, Berry & Granola Parfaits, Homemade Buttermilk,  Buttermilk Marinated Chicken Pitas with Homemade Tatziki Sauce, Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

Day 4 – Crazy For Carbohydrates Everyone is crazy for carbs.  Today we go all out – it’s a total carb overload and no one goes home hungry! MENU – Fresh Pasta Dough, Garlic & Herb Butter Sauce, Risotto with Peas & Parmesan, Lemon Polenta Cake with Balsamic Berries

Day 5 – Kitchen Chemistry  Science it truly happening in the kitchen today!  When we combine ingredients and different flavour profiles, we get some really delicious results.  MENU – Fried Chicken with Biscuits, Carrot Cupcakes with Salted Caramel Buttercream + our Day 5 Master Chef Jr. Challenge
