Trip of a Lifetime!

It was only a few short years ago (or so it seemed), when I turned 40, but I vowed to myself then, that when I turned 50, I would take a dream-trip of a lifetime – a culinary exploration of Italy. Well, that time is here! On October 13, I will leave be leaving Waterloo and heading to the European continent…first to Switzerland for a visit with friends and then onto Italy and the Amalfi coast.

Along with 3 “foodie” friends, we will be travelling to Positano where we will immerse ourselves in all the culinary wonders that this spectacular region has to offer….walks in the lemon and olive groves to see how the famous limoncello and olive oils are produced, Neapolitan cooking lessons along with a visit to a buffalo mozzarella farm, market tours and of course eating! Check back for my daily updates and pictures. I will posting to Facebook and Twitter regularly, so stay linked! In the meantime, here is a taste of our itinerary….

Thursday October 18 – Arrival in Positano
Check in and dinner at a charming family-owned restaurant overlooking the town of Positano where you’ll be introduced to the delicious flavors of the area in a multi-course meal to include house wine and homemade liqueurs such as the famous limoncello!

Friday October 19 – Winery visit & Gourmet Lunch in Avellino
A visit to Feudi di San Gregorio winery including vineyard & cellar tour, premium wine tasting and a traditional Neapolitan style lunch in their Michelin star restaurant.

Saturday October 20 – Olive Oil Mill & Tasting – Private Guided Tour of Pompeii – Visit to a Limoncello Factory
This morning we visit a local family-owned olive mill for a personal tour and tasting of the specialty olive oils – flavors include traditional DOC, as well as peperoncino, orange (paired with chocolate as a dessert!) and lemon infused oils.

This afternoon we get a guided tour of Pompeii including a visit to the reserved houses that are available by reservation only – a very special treat! on our return we’ll stop in a Sorrentine village to see the production of local liqueurs and enjoy a tasting of the famous Amalfitana specialties.

Sunday October 21 – Free Day (stay posted for Facebook & Twitter updates)

Monday October 22 – Mozzarella Cheese Tour with Lunch and Guided tour of Paestum
A visit to the Buffalo mozzarella capital of the world! We’ll enjoy a guided tour of an organic buffalo farm where they produce delicious buffalo mozzarella in addition to another smaller mozzarella cheese producer owned by a local family.

Tuesday October 23 – Market Tour & Hands On Cooking Class
Today we will join a noble Sorrentine family in their villa for hands-on cooking class. After taking a market tour we will use the fruits of our labour to make our own dinner. Their villa is situated amongst the citrus and palm trees and will include a tour of their private wine cellar (oh I can’t wait..hope we make it back to our hotel..thank heavens for our driver).

Wednesday October 24 – Private Amalfi Coast Drive
Today we will be sightseeing around the area…of course that means shopping too!

Thursday October 25 – Neapolitan Pizza Making Class
Yes, we will learn how to do this….should be so much fun!

Friday October 26 – Last Hand-on Cooking lesson!
Our final cooking class tonight…another market tour and then we will cook (which lots of wine I am sure).

Saturday October 26 – Return to Waterloo
